Archaeological finds indicate that the Ionians settled on Mykonos in the early part of the 11th century BC. More recent discoveries have uncovered remnants in Ftelia beach from the Neolithic Kares tribe dating back to as far as 3000 BC.

In Greek mythology Mykonos was the location of the battle between Zeus and the Titan, and the island was named in honor of Apollo’s grandson Mykonos. During these ancient times, Mykonos, due to its proximity to the then highly populated island of Delos (situated about 2km away), became very important as a supply island and possibly as a getaway location for Delian citizens.

Today, Mykonos is one of the most cosmopolitan islands in Greece, having become increasingly popular with mass tourism. It is known for its diverse and intense nightlife featured by a vast number of bars and nightclubs. Mykonos is also known for its sandy beaches.

Walking in the city, You start with a visit to the Mykonian Archeological Museum which has a number of exhibits from the island of Delos.

Next you walk tour through the narrow whitewashed streets, where you will appreciate the fact that its confusing layout was designed to foil the attacking pirates. Your next stop is the traditional 15th century bakery which is still operational today and one of the few bakeries in Greece which still uses wood burning ovens.

You will stroll through picture-perfect Little Venice, so called due to its striking resemblance in design to the famous canal city. You will also see the famous windmills, an island trademark, which offer a wonderful photo opportunity.

Optional Treat: Do as the locals do and sit for an afternoon drink and snacks. We can arrange a spot for you to enjoy Ouzo (local anise flavored spirit) with traditional mezedes (appetizers).

Your tour ends in the old town of Mykonos so you can enjoy free time. It is about a 20 minute walk through the town and along the harbor to return to the pier where large cruise ships dock. However most cruise lines offer free shuttles from the town back to the ship.
